Plumber Dudley

Plumber Dudley work is shaped by salt: the clifftop takes the weather straight off the Tasman, and taps, tank anodes and outdoor pipe wear out early. Dudley sits beside Whitebridge, and Whitebridge Plumbing Co covers it on the same run for drains, hot water, gas and after-hours faults, all priced up front.

Salt, Steel and the Old Village

Weather from the east

With nothing between the clifftop and the ocean, valves stiffen, the anodes in hot water tanks are eaten away and the clips on outside pipes rust off, years ahead of homes inland.

Galvanised in the old land-sale streets

Miners' weatherboard cottages from the 1889 to 1927 land sales had galvanised iron water pipes, and the unrenovated ones near Ocean Street still suffer the weak flow that comes with it. Renovations in the 1904 subdivision streets named after country towns keep uncovering that original pipe.

Clay in the hollow

The old village drains through earthenware older than the postwar growth, and banksia and eucalypt roots work in from the Glenrock side. The low flat near Elizabeth Street, known long ago as Frog Hollow, fills with runoff in the heavy rain an east-coast low brings.

Where the Work Sits

Plumber feeding a drain camera into a pit at a commercial unit

Blocked drains

Root-choked earthenware sewers, pipes collapsed in undermined ground, and stormwater pooling in the hollow.

Plumber finishing a continuous-flow gas hot water install

Hot water

Cylinders on exposed blocks rusting out early and failing all at once.

Gas fitting

Cooktops, ovens, heaters and BBQ lines connected and tested.

Emergency plumber

Salt-thinned service pipes splitting near the meter, and braided flexi hoses frayed by the sea air.

A burst that has already let go is an emergency, while a slow drain that keeps coming back gets a camera inspection before anything is dug.

When we're not the right call: a clifftop retaining wall or footing moved by undermined ground needs a builder or engineer before any drain beneath it is relaid.

Before You Ring

Look at the tank

Rust streaks down the cylinder jacket, or a damp patch at its base on a sea-facing wall, say the tank is close to the end. Mention it when you call.

Try every tap

Weak flow at all the taps together points at the old steel service rather than a single fixture, which helps the plumber bring the right fittings.

Questions From the Clifftop

Does the salt air on the clifftop really shorten hot water tank life?

It does. A cylinder bolted to an exposed wall here loses its anode and tank wall to salt years sooner than an inland unit would. The replacement quote allows for that exposure, and we can talk through a more sheltered spot for the next tank.

Do you clear sewers in the old village streets the same way?

Yes. The camera goes down before any clearing, which matters on the old earthenware runs through the village core, because the footage shows whether the line needs a careful jet pass or a dig-up where the pipe has fallen in.
